The Global Alliance to Promote Fruit and Vegetable Consumption 5 a day – AIAM5 celebrates on October 15 the 9th edition of the World Fruit and Vegetables Day under the slogan “Fruits and Vegetables for Healthier and Sustainable Food Systems”, which on this occasion is part of the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables AIAM5’s activities. 40 national and international partners from 32 countries around the world will join forces to achieve the greatest possible impact.   • FINAL REPORT –  FAO/WHO International Workshop on Fruits and Vegetables 2020 in preparation for the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021

At last! It has just been published the final report of the FAO/WHO International Workshop on Fruits and Vegetables 2020, in which as you know, AIAM5 played an active role. Accessible here (only English at the moment)

This report shows the keys on the development of evidence-based, actionable recommendations for future policies, laws, regulations and programs aiming to improve F&V consumption, production and value chains.  I encourage you to read it and extract the key points that may support your strategic plans, especially, those actions that involve policy makers and strategic partners.

 

In addition, the three background documents that formed the basis of the discussions carried out during the workshop have been published too. Accessible only English at the moment:

 

We trust that these documents are useful to consolidate and support the actions of your organizations and the role of the Alliance in improving food systems through the promotion of the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and the support to the primary sector to achieve the objective of one health for all

AIAM5 launchs its NEWSLETTER  to conmemorate the IYFV2021

Members have access to information on the activities of the Alliance partners in promoting the consumption of fruits and vegetables, as well as relevant information on the actions of AIAM5 to create a powerful international network to promote and support efforts to increase global consumption of fruit and vegetables and make the voice of the fruit and vegetable sector heard for one health.

Within the framework of the 9th General Assembly of members of the Global Alliance to Promote Fruits and Vegetables Consumption “5 a day” (“AIAM5”), held virtually on November the 26th 2020, attending 35 representatives from 26 national and international entities as full and colaborative members, from 22 countries, agreed that:

  1. AIAM5 members support the declaration in the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly of year 2021 as the International Year of Fruit and Vegetables (IYFV).
  2. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, F&V play a very relevant role in this regard, as they improved nutrition and health status due to its content in vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals, acting as protection factors for NCD and as cornerstone of the immune function
  3. AIAM5 is committed and willing to work eagerly to help their member to facilitate those countries where they operate to achieve the goals of the IYFV expected to have an impact in reducing hunger and poverty, enhancing food and nutrition security, improving livelihoods, and contributing to better natural resource management for a healthier and more sustainable food systems

UN General Assembly establishes Fruit and Vegetables international year. FAO welcomes this global recognition.

19 December 2019, New York/Rome – The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 2021 as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables following request made by the FAO Conference.

Chile has been a champion of devoting a year to promote fruit and vegetables,  supported by AIAM5 members which asked letters of supports to their National Ministers of Agriculture. Read more>>
