PROFILE:

Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) is a non-profit fruit and vegetable education foundation that works through industry and government collaboration, as well as through consumer influencers and thought leaders, to motivate Americans to eat more fruits and vegetables to improve public health.  To learn more, visit www.PBHFoundation.org.

Areas of Work
Partners with Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) on implementation of the national Fruits & Veggies-More Matters Public Health Initiative, which replaced 5 A Day in 2007.

Partners with US Department of Agriculture to extend new ChooseMyPlate messages, particularly making “half your plate fruits and vegetables.”

Consumer behavior change focus
PBH works to understand current fruit and vegetable behavior through literature reviews, mom surveys, and consumption data. Additionally, PBH develops and manages ongoing reports cards of the USA National Action Plan to increase fruit and vegetable consumption.  All research can be found at www.PBHFoundation.org/about/res/.

Nutrition Education Materials
A variety of fruit and vegetable nutrition education resources, curriculum, and promotion materials are available to educators, government agencies, public health professionals, and consumers. The resources are applicable for children 3-18, as well as for adults and can be found at www.PBHCatalog.org

Messaging
With the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters Public Health Initiative, Moms are reached through various message channels and key influencers including product packaging, supermarket and industry marketing and promotions, educators and health professionals, and the media.

Our consumer website, www.FruitsAndVeggiesMoreMatters.org, has been shown to be a favored resource for Moms and other consumers. The website offers a variety of information, tips, recipes, videos, and menus, as well as other resources on a variety of fruits and vegetables in all forms. The website averages over 80,000 unique visitors per month, and over 1,300 sites send referrals.

Social Media
The reach to consumers is extended through social marketing efforts including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Blogs. More than 25,000 fans and followers join in on the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters conversations and another 40,000 stay informed about new content available at FruitsAndVeggiesMoreMatters.org, healthy menu ideas, recipe of the week, and even gardening tips and reminders.
