Is a country with a variety of climates and a large variety of topographic elevations, these
conditions ensure the permanent supply of fruits and vegetables. However, has a low
consumption of fruits and vegetables, there again the country is promoting the importance of
consuming our unique fruit and vegetables.
The 5 A Day program comes to Colombia in 2008, through the Corporación Colombia
Internacional – CCI, organization that is promoting the agricultural development in Colombia.
The CCI also conducts regular activities promoting consumption of fruits and vegetables, with
particular emphasis on children and pregnant women.
The program 5 a day “frutas y verduras para estar mejor,” aims to promote in our country,
good habits and lifestyles, as well as develop the rural economy, encouraging the colombian
producers of fruits and vegetables to increase their production and revenue.
It is important to highlight the implementation of the program 5 a day, one of the great
achievements was the eighth congress of promoting the consumption of fruit and vegetables
carried in 2012 in collaboration with FAO – Colombia and Ministry of Health, in which exchanged
experiences with other countries and “5 a day” programs.
In 2014 the CCI won the Guinness World Record “the biggest quantity of fruits and vegetables
gifted in 4 hours” giving more than 30,000 kilograms of fruit and vegetables in 7 cities, impacting
positively more than 75,000 Colombians. In Agroexpo 2015, we reached 120,000 people with
tastings fruits and smoothies.
For the publication of the ENSIN 2015 is expected a consumption of F & V of 210 grams a day
per capita, increasing in 20 grams from the 2010 publication.
